The park

The collections of ornamental plants are part of the Banca del Germoplasma (the Germoplasm Bank), a project conceived over thirty years ago. Its goal is to gather different varieties and determine their genetic and phytosanitary similarities in order to preserve their genetic heritage. They include conifers and other varieties of trees, flowering shrubs, and hedges.

The buildings

They house offices, meeting rooms, laboratories, and storehouses. The main building, recently renovated, contains the GEA offices and a large conference hall that can also be used for meetings and external events.

Weather station

Since 1989, the Centre has housed a computerised weather station that records and preserves a database of information it has collected. The station’s measuring equipment was recently modernised and updated by Netsens.

Educational area

GEA’s educational area, in the heart of our research centre, is a space devoted to interactive learning and the dissemination of scientific information.

Cultivation

The two iron-and-glass greenhouses, which extend over 1000 square metres, are used for the propagation of plants through seeding or cutting and for providing shelter over the winter for plants grown in pots.
